Guest Cottage Nestled in the Vines

Built as an extension of a premier Oregon winery estate, this custom guest cottage was designed to create an immersive vineyard experience—a place where elevated comfort meets natural beauty. Tucked into the vine-covered hillside, the cottage includes two private suites, each with its own bathroom, flanking a central gathering space designed for relaxation, conversation, and the ritual of sharing wine.

Though just steps away from the heart of the winery, the cottage feels a world apart. The layout embraces 270-degree views, showcasing everything from Cascade peaks to the gently rolling vineyards below. Every decision, from the siting and spatial flow to material and furnishing choices was made to enhance the setting and provide guests with an experience that feels thoughtful, intentional, and memorable.

This guest house is more than an addition; it’s a new chapter in the winery’s story. It enhances the guest experience, provides a luxurious place to stay among the vines, and creates an additional revenue stream for the estate, all while blending seamlessly with the property’s existing architecture and tasting room.

When our clients came to us, they had a clear, beautiful vision: a vineyard guesthouse that could host friends and wine lovers with the same warmth and quality as their winery. The request was simple but rich in meaning, elevated comfort, agricultural beauty, and spaces that invite both solitude and connection.

The design journey focused first on the views, those iconic vineyard panoramas that shift with the light and seasons. We wanted every guest to feel like they were wrapped in the landscape, so the cottage was oriented and shaped to maximize outlooks and privacy. Each suite functions as its own private retreat, while the common space in the center, where wine notes are compared over fabulous food and laughter, anchors the experience.

Because the site was active and operational during construction, coordination with the client, general contractor, and winery team was essential. The home had to be delivered with precision, staged carefully for placement among tight corners and steep vineyard roads. It’s part of the dance of building in a place like this, and something we do with care and confidence.

Materials and furnishings were chosen to reflect the aesthetic of the existing winery and tasting room, reinforcing the sense of harmony across the estate. The guesthouse doesn’t just match its surroundings, it elevates them, offering a new way for visitors to connect to the land, the wine, and the story.

Today, the guest cottage welcomes people from all over. Guests leave glowing reviews, not just about the views or the wine, but about how they feel here, transported, grounded, and deeply relaxed. Whether on a vineyard, a city lot, or a mountain retreat, that feeling is what ideabox aims to deliver: thoughtful design, rooted in place, and made to elevate everyday life.
